I must admit, I have a wee addiction to embossing folders. I can’t seem to resist buying them and using them on my die cut projects. A2, Borders and 5X7…I love them all ! The texture they add to die cut projects is amazing and so I continue to add new ones to my collection. Until one day I ran out of space…I had filled up two photo boxes with embossing folders and had a stack of unopened ones I needed to put away. Thus started my search for a better way to store them.
I tried a lot of different containers…none of them were the right size to hold the 5X7 folders standing up which is what I wanted or had the capacity for my growing collection. Then, I discovered this little gem in the Storage Containers offered by Close To My Heart. Unfortunately this storage box is no longer available, however, you can find similar sized storage boxes at craft stores and online stores.
The container is 14 1/2″ X 10 1/2″ X 7 1/2″ which allows plenty of room for me to store the 5X7 standing on end. It also has 4 dividers inside so you could sort by type or however you want. I sort mine alphabetically. Read on to see how I label to find them quickly.
It now holds my rather large collection of embossing folders in one spot. Can you guess how many I have? There are 207 embossing folders now stored neatly in place with room for a few more in this perfect Embossing Folder Storage container.
Wanna see how I label, sort and access my embossing folders? Again this is a system I developed over time after trial and error. It works great for me.
1. I write the actual name of the embossing folder with a sharpie on the bottom of each folder. Then I add a piece of clear scotch tape over it so it doesn’t rub off in use. Again, something I learned the hard way. Even the matching border folder gets labeled the same way.
2. I use a tag (which I cut with my die cut machine) and write the embossing folder manufacturer, the size of the folder and the name of the folder on the tag.
3. I flip the tag over and emboss with that folder. TIP: Its important to write on the tag first before embossing. Too hard to write with all those bumps on it afterwards. LOL
4. Each embossing folder is stored alphabetically in the storage box. Then alphabetically on the jumbo binder rings I purchased at office supply store. Since there are 4 sections in the storage box, I put them on 4 rings, one for each section.
5. The ring hangs on a hook right by my craft table so I flip through it to figure out which folder I want to use, go to the box and readily find it. AND most importantly, be able to put it back in order where I can find it again next time !
I am thrilled with my new Embossing Folder Storage !
Wondering about the vinyl label I created for the storage box? You can find the information on how I did that on my post HERE.
Do you have a lot of Embossing Folders you need to store ? How do you currently store them ? I’d love to know so leave me a comment.
I love this idea and although I don’t have that many embossing folders, I do have close to that many (CTMH) stamp sets. How do you organize those?
Debbie – this is genius!! Thanks for sharing!
Nice storage. Have been thinking about picking up some more storage organizational supplies, but DH will have a heart attack if ups shows up for awhile!
